Biography

Jeannine Flower is from Bucks County, Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), the historic heart of the early-20th-century Pennsylvania Impressionist movement. She now works from her studio in Barbizon, France, at the edge of the Fontainebleau Forest —home to the Barbizon School, a mid-19th-century French pre-Impressionist movement—two places historically shaped by painting grounded in light and landscape.

Jeannine’s art journey began in childhood, drawing and painting, with horses as an early inspiration. Between the ages of 9-11, she was exposed early to art through Saturday workshops at the Moore School of Art in Philadelphia. At the age of eleven, her formal artistic focus paused when classical training in piano and violin took precedence, although she continued to paint and received local art awards through the age of eighteen (1984).

In 2017, following an international corporate career and her family’s relocation to Paris, Jeannine chose to pursue painting professionally. Since then, her work has been exhibited regularly in prestigious juried salons, including Le Salon des Artistes Français (Art Capital) at the Grand Palais Paris and Le Salon d’Automne Paris, with further exhibitions in Europe and recently in Tokyo. Her paintings are held in private collections internationally.

Her work has been recognized with numerous awards and distinctions, including Art Show Guest of Honor (2024) and the Vermeil Medal issued by the Académie Arts-Sciences-Lettres Paris for contribution to artistic culture (2023), affirming her position among established contemporary artists in France. Artist Statement

My passion for art is driven by color and its ability to assert energy, movement and presence. My expressive paintings are rooted in nature, the spirit and beauty of the equine form, and the emotional resonance of life around me. Guided by light subjects move through color on canvas between realism and impression that bring life to the spaces they inhabit.

The essence of my work, Horses ~ Horizons ~ Light, is where light leads, horizons unfold, and the horse, my muse, is sometimes visible, sometimes a quieter signature within the painting. While the natural world and the equine form are enduring touchstones in my work, I don’t like to be confined to a single subject : above all, I paint what moves me.

I make paintings that bring life to the spaces they inhabit.

Jeannine’s work is exhibited regularly in juried art salons in Paris and further afield in Europe and recently in Tokyo including :
